Biography


Nino Díaz was born in Lanzarote, in the Canary Islands. He started his musical studies with his father, enroling later in the music school Círculo de Amigos de la Música in Arrecife, Lanzarote.

 


In 1985, he moved to Barcelona, where he continued his studies in the Higher Municipal Music Conservatory (Conservatorio Superior Municipal de Música), obtaining the following degrees:

  • Clarinet Teacher (advanced).
  • Harmony, Counterpoint, Composition and Instrumentation Teacher (advanced).
  • Orchestra Conducting Teacher (advanced).

He furthered his instrumental studies (clarinet and bass clarinet) with Miquel Barona, professor of the Orchestra of Gran teatro del Liceo of Barcelona, and he participated in several courses on his instrumental speciality (with Andrew Marriner, Thea King, Michel Lethiec, Joan Enric Lluna, Carls Riera ). In addition, other courses (with Ricard Peraire, Yiya Diaz, Xavier Boliart, Albert Llanas).

Within the field of composition, he also took part in numerous courses with composers such as Alearco Ambrosi, Albert Sará, Tomás Marco, Xavier Benguerel, Ramón Barce, Javier Darias, Benet Casablancas, Rafael Mira, Miquel Roger, Carlos Luis de Castro, David Padrós, José García Román, José Luis Campana, Carles Guinovart, Gabriel Brncic, Zulema de la Cruz, Agustín González Acilu, Salvador Brotons, Josep Manuel Berenguer, Joan Albert Amargós, Fernando Aracil, Gonzalo de Olavide, Consuelo Díez, Albert llanas and Jesús Rodríguez Picó.

He has a wide experience as a performer, both with the clarinet and with the bass clarinet, having often given concerts all over Spain as a member of very varied musical groups, both chamber and orchestral ( he was the principal clarinetist in the Band of Music Ciutat de L´Hospitalet and, on several occasions, he collaborated with the Orchestra of Gran Teatro del Liceo de Barcelona, the Symphony Orchestra of Barcelona y Nacional de Cataluña, the Symphony Orchestra of el Vallés and the Municipal Band of Barcelona). Furthermore, he was a founding member of "Trío Aquila", a group specializing in contemporary music, with composers as important as Tomás Marco, Albert Sardá and Ramón Barce writing musical works for them.

As a teacher, he has a sound professional career, having been the principal for five years at Aulos, the Municipal Music School of Cerdanyola, where he currently works as a clarinet teacher and conductor of the Symphony Orchestra Aulos.

At present, he is the conductor of the Band Ciutat de l´Hospitalet y Sinfónica de les Corts and he has occasionally conducted other instrumental groups.

As a composer, he has written over fifty works including some sound tracks ( two short films by the director Robert Hoffman and a documentary for television). His works have been performed by:

  • The Municipal Band of Barcelona.
  • The Clarinets Quartet of Barcelona.
  • Trio Werter.
  • The Ensemble Sitges 94.
  • The Eslovenia Brass Quintet.
  • The Chamber Orchestra "Amadeus" from Moscow.
  • The Young Orchestra of Principado de Asturias.
  • The Chamber Orchestra of L´Ampordá.
  • Duo Levent.
  • Soloists, such as Silvia Vidal, Iñigo Alonso and the international Harry Sparnaay.

At the moment, he is writing an opera for which he has been commissioned.

He is a member of Asociación Catalana de Compositores ( the Catalan Association of Composers), of PROMUSCAN ( an association for the promotion of music in the Canary Islands), as well as of Fundación Música Contemporánea (the Contemporary Music Foundation)

As a copyist, he has worked in the preparation and revision of scores for the Barcelona 92 Olympic Games, for Clivis Publishing Company, for Tritó Publishing Company, for Claret Publishing Company, for publications of Departament d´Educació de la Generalitat de Cataluña (the Education Department of the Catalanan Government), for the Orchestra of Gran Teatro del Liceo, the Symphony Orchestra of Barcelona y nacional de Cataluña, for the orchestra Teatre Lliure, for the Municipal Band of Barcelona and , privately, for a number of composers.

He is a specialist on publishing scores on the computer, having given courses about it and advised influential people of the music world, such as Josep Roda ,Coordinador General de la Escuela Superior de Música de Cataluña (General Coordinator of the Higher Music School of Cataluña); Francisco Grau, Coronel Director de la Banda del Rey ( The Colonel Conductor of the King´s Band ); and other composers and teachers of music schools and conservatories. At the present time, he is the creator and director of the virtual publishing company "PERIFERIA Sheet Music", which concentrates on contemporary music.
